Even when you are comparing moving on your own versus moving with the professionals, All My Sons Moving and Storage it is less costly on your wallet. It may seem like doing-it-yourself seems like a feasible option until you weigh in the cost of the rental truck, the fuel, the equipment rental as well as the bottle on aspirin after it’s all said and done.
There are several different places to rent truck but most of them advertise a daily price. That ‘on the sign out front’ price is not showing you the >$4 a gallon fuel charge they charge if you return the vehicle not topped off.
Mileage, they will charge you mileage as well, really racks up with several trips even if you were only moving from Tualatin to Tigard or King City to Beaverton, ect. Hint: You and your pizza paid friends probably won’t pack a truck as well All My Sons movers do- Therefore the multiple trips.
Another gem is the inferior rental equipment you are ‘stuck’ with on a rental truck. Only one dolly, usually. On All My Sons’ trucks we have at least an appliance dolly, box dolly, two or three four wheel dollies, piano board and the moving blankets. The blankets are probably one of the best examples in the comparison. Rental blankets are very thin and small by design because they have to fit in that little bag. (I think the idea of that little bag and the little blankets is that the rental company knows that you would have a tough time re folding those and putting them back into that bag unless you are a professional parachute packer. Reason being, they charge to fold the blankets and clean the truck when you return it). Our Blankets are large and quilted. If I was to spend a night on Mount Hood or any mountain in the Cascade Range, I would prefer our quilted blues over any rental blanket. The equipment makes a big difference on the performance on the move, the condition of the household goods, and how frustrated you get stuck in a stairwell with that lazy boy recliner which never reclines right unless you are stuck in a stairwell.
All these are good points, but the most obvious point of why All My Sons moving and is less costly is because of the wear and tear on you, your friends and family. Save theirs and your backs.

What does All My Sons do to make Customer's moves safer?
Safety is a big issue. Truck Safety 1st:
Traffic is always our first issue. Imagine afternoon traffic on hwy 217 from Lake Oswego through Tigard and Beaverton any weekday afternoon. Our All My Sons drivers have their helpers to assist them on right turns and backing up. When the men arrive at the customer's home they park as a two man team. When we block roadways we put out cones or triangles.
Strenuous Labor: Most people are not used to moving heavy furniture all day, our All. Plus just doing outdoor work into the mix. Portland Oregon is known for rainy slick conditions. Up in the West Hills, Skyline Area, Sylvan, Mount Scott and the rest of the Willamette Valley for that matter can have early morning or late night fog. We work through all of it. We just put down ramp runners and step carefully. Furniture Moving Safety. One of the things they makes All My Sons stand out is how our men pad wrap the furniture in the home before we actually move it. They put the pads on tightly, as if gift wrapping, then tape the pad to itself. This allows the item to be moved without the item's drawers or doors to come open and holds the items together. One of our mottos is to use the tools. Moving can be back breaking work and our men know how to lift with their legs, how to move items in unison and- more importantly- we the equipment and the knowledge to move an item using straps. Straps can be used to carry an item in a straight up and down way without putting any strain on their lower back.

What are the benefits of my goods being stored in a private warehouse as opposed to a public storage facility?
Do you want your worldly posessions as secure as they possibly can be? If you're like me, then yes. I do not want anyone other than myself or a family member to be able to access my stored goods. This is the type of protection I receive when I have my goods in a safe, secure and climitized warehouse.
In a private warehouse setting, I know that my items are going to be handled in a safe and professional manner that will provide me with the security and put my mind at ease while in storage. Video surveillance is one measure of security that I appreciate as well as not allowing out-side personell, other than warehouse employees, inside the secure facility. This would ensure the access of my goods, to no one, other than myself and the employees of the secure building. I do know that in the great Pacific Northwest, we have a varied climate and it can be quite cold and quite wet. Inside of the warehouse is a comfortable temperature and the correct humidity that will keep my furniture and other sensitive items at a consistent and safe level of protection. I wouldn't want my items stored anywhere but a climate controlled, safe, and secure warehouse. Rip City!

Why is it better to leave packing and moving antiques and fragile items to the experts?
At All My Sons Moving and Storage, we use only strong, corrugated cartons with tops or flaps that fold shut. Purchasing new, high quality packing materials specifically designed for moving can really make the difference in making sure that your household goods arrive at their destination safely.
Moving boxes come in a variety of shapes and sizes that are specifically suited to fit a variety of household goods. Check with your local movers on prices of boxes for you. You can sometime get used moving boxes at half the price, though I do not recommend you get used boxes for packing your dishes.
We do not use masking tape or duck tape on your boxes. Masking tape is never strong enough for full boxes and will break. Duck tape does not stick very well and when it does stick it is very hard to get open. We use a poly-vinyl or PVC tape to seal boxes and secure our quilted furniture pads around your items.
If you're not comfortable packing your own fragile items, let our packing professionals put your mind at ease. We will take the time to wrap all of your items in a safe and secure manner that will ensure the safe and secure arrival of all your valued possesions, using time-tested packing procedures and utilizing the skill of our full time moving staff.
